Concept guide
Brainwave Frequencies Explained
EEG recordings are often discussed in broad frequency bands such as delta, theta, alpha, beta and gamma. These labels describe patterns in measured electrical activity; they are not buttons that guarantee a particular mental outcome.
Delta
Low-frequency activity often discussed in relation to sleep.
Theta
A band discussed across sleep, memory and cognitive research contexts.
Alpha
Often observed prominently during relaxed wakefulness, especially with eyes closed.
Beta & Gamma
Higher-frequency activity studied across many cognitive and sensory processes.
Why marketing gets tricky
Associations between a frequency band and a state do not mean playing audio with the same numerical label will reliably create that state. That inference requires evidence.
