Gamma Brain Waves Explained

Gamma refers to relatively high-frequency neural oscillatory activity studied in neuroscience. It appears in research on perception, attention and other cognitive processes, but “gamma” is not a synonym for guaranteed cognitive enhancement.

Measured gamma-band activity in the brain and an audio track marketed around a gamma frequency are different things. A product needs its own evidence if it claims a specific product-level outcome.

Evidence note. Binaural beats are a real auditory phenomenon, but a 2023 systematic review of 14 studies found inconsistent evidence for brainwave entrainment and substantial methodological heterogeneity.
